Lake Mead Fishing Report
Week of January 11, 2005

(courtesy of the Nevada Department of Wildlife - www.ndow.org)
Anglers are expected to start returning to the lake following the recent storms that drenched southern Nevada. As they return, they should find fairly good winter fishing for striped bass in the Boulder Basin.

Reports received recently from anglers by the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) indicate that boaters continue to catch stripers from upper Las Vegas Wash to Sand Island. Most of the fish are around a pound and are being taken by chumming and fishing with anchovies.

Fishing from shore has been productive for stripers following NDOW’s trout plants. A few fish weighing 10 pounds or more are being seen immediately after the plants. One angler told NDOW that he had a large striper roll on his Pencil Popper lure several times Friday ( 1/7/05) evening at North Saddle Cove.

Storms have made for murky water conditions in some areas which negatively impacts the fishing. NDOW said anglers will have better success by avoiding these areas and looking for places where the water is clear.

Creel census clerks said they did not see any anglers at fish cleaning stations in the Overton Arm over the weekend.

NDOW will stock rainbow trout Friday ( 1/14/05) at Hemenway, Horsepower, North Saddle and Pumphouse coves.

Caution is urged when driving on unpaved roads at the recreation area. Storms have left debris on roads and caused some washouts.
